There are many Christians who believe in millions of years, but they don't understand the consequences of this. They don't realize that if they believe in millions of years of Earth history, they have to therefore accept death, diseases like cancer, bloodshed, suffering, and thorns before sin. This is because the idea of millions of years applies to the layers of fossil-bearing rock all over the Earth's surface.

Back in the early 18th century, many people believed that these layers of fossil-bearing rock were laid down as a result of the Flood of Noah's day. However, in the late 18th century and early 19th century, the idea that these layers were laid down slowly over millions of years was popularized. Eventually, radiometric dating methods and other dating methods were developed to try to substantiate the idea of millions of years in regard to the age of fossil-bearing layers.

The point is this: if one accepts millions of years, one also has to accept that these layers of rocks were laid down over millions of years, as this is a part of the supposed millions of years' history that secular scientists propose. Now these rock layers contain fossils-dead things. They also contain evidence of disease. For instance, there are dinosaur bones that show evidence of cancer. Surely no one would believe that when God said everything was 'very good,' as we read in Genesis 1:31, that the world was already full of cancer! In fact, many of the diseases we find in our modern world, we also find evidence of in the fossil record. Not only this, but the Bible makes it clear that thorns came as a result of the curse, whereas if one believes in millions of years, these fossil thorns are supposedly hundreds of millions of years old.

One simply cannot accept millions of years without accepting diseases like cancer and thorns before man. The Bible makes it clear that death, diseases, and thorns came after man's sin. This should challenge those Christians who believe in millions of years to realize that they can't consistently accept what the Bible says in Genesis and also what secular scientists propose concerning the supposed millions of years of history in the fossil record.
