Death: Forbidden Fruit
This week's illustration, 'Forbidden Fruit,' includes one other Bible verse illustration: 'Genesis 2:16-17.'
In Genesis 2:16-17,
we read that God gave Adam a choice. Adam wasn't made as a puppet-he was
given a choice. He could eat of all the trees in the Garden of Eden; there
was only one tree he was not to eat of, because if he did, he would surely
die. Actually, when you look up the verse in the Hebrew language, it actually
reads that he would 'dying, die.' This means he would start to die and
continue to die and eventually die. It would be a process. Thus, the Bible
makes it clear here that death was to be the penalty if man rebelled against
God. It also makes it clear that it would be physical death.
