Biotic Message (The)

Reasons we sell this publication:

This book’s main theme—that the universe was designed to convey a message about the designer to the creation and did it in such a way that no other interpretation of the universe’s history can make sense of the facts—is a powerful, testable claim about the universe and has great potential in building and strengthening a creation model. The book contains some excellent, in-depth critiques of aspects of evolutionary theory, some with a depth and thoroughness not found in other creationist works.

Problems to be aware of:

Although the book advocates a creationist position, it is not a biblically-based creationist position. For example, the ‘sequential release’ explanation of the fossil record (p. 423) cannot be made to fit the scriptural account. Although a direct discussion of the age of things is avoided, the explanation of the fossil record (and apparent acceptance of the big bang) seems to assume long ages, thus precluding the biblical time-frame of only thousands of years.

We routinely advise caution in the application of criteria such as falsifiability in a field as fluid as the philosophy of science (see e.g. J. P. Moreland’s Christianity and the Nature of Science, 1989). Beliefs about origins in general are not open to scientific falsification.

Some creationists are now saying that the common view that life is arranged hierarchically, upon which some of the book is based, may itself be in the process of being falsified.
