Education

  • BDiv, University of London, London, England, 1963

Testimony

Brian was not brought up in a gospel-centered home, though both his parents later became committed Christians. In his teens he was introduced by some friends to the message of salvation, responded to the call of Christ and soon felt a strong call to preach the gospel. At first he accepted the usual default position of theistic evolution, but soon realized that this was not compatible with a plain reading of Scripture. His early link with AiG began when he was able to organise a visit by Ken Ham to a Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches (FIEC) family conference.

Personal Information

Born in Devon, England, Brian became a Christian during his mid-teens and graduated with a Divinity degree from the University of London. He taught in two secondary schools whilst working as assistant to Derek Prime at Lansdowne Evangelical Church in West Norwood, London before moving to Surrey to take up the pastorate of Hook Evangelical Church in Surbiton.

After his 29 years as pastor there, Brian took on a 3-year appointment to be President of the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches, during which he visited many of the 500 FIEC-affiliated churches in the UK. Brian was a member of the Council of FIEC and of their Executive Committee, and a member of the Theological Team and Social Issues Team. Brian was also a founder Trustee and Chairman of the Editorial Board of Praise Trust from 1995 until 2018 and is a founder Trustee and Chairman for Christian Prison Resources.

Brian’s wife, Barbara, had been confined to a wheelchair for 12 years and, in November 1998, she was called home to be with her Lord. He married Rosie in 2011, the widow of a Grace Baptist pastor. They are members at Hook Evangelical Church.

Currently, Brian’s ministry is one of writing, editing, lecturing and preaching at churches and conferences. He has written over 20 books including co-author for Evidence for the Bible, and a series of six books under the title All You Need to Know About the Bible.
