The Word Frequently Asked Questions

On the Tutorial CD, why does the "Edit Note" movie play when I click the "View Note" button?
Posted 12/15/2000

This is an error on the CD and will be corrected on our next burn of new CDs. To solve this problem, you need to use the "NEXT" and "BACK" buttons on the screen to load the "View Note" movie. In other words, click the "View Passage" button, then click the "Next" button which will load the "View Note" movie. Or, click the "View Library" button, then click the "BACK" button and the "View Note" movie will load.

How come when I click the "Library" icon in "The Word," I don't get any topics or books?
Posted 11/29/2000

The library feature only works on CD's of version 8.10 or later due to a file format change. If you have a CD prior to version 8.10, then to access the topics and books that are on your CD, you need to pull down the 'File' menu and select 'Open - Book/Topics'. This will bring up a window with all your pre-selected topics/books.

What does the "Your 'The Word' module is quite old" message mean, and what do I do to fix it?
Posted 6/2/2000

There are two ways to get the "Your 'The Word' module is quite old" message. First is that the program is more than one year old. This can be fixed by downloading the update for free. (See our downloads section). The second is if your CD is more than 3 years old. In this case you would need to purchase an upgrade CD. You may e-mail our customer service department and ask for the upgrade pricing.

When I press F8 I get the dictionary instead of the Preselect window as the manual states. Why is this so?

In the newer versions, that functionality has been moved to F9. Alternately, you can pull down the 'View' menu and select 'Preselect Items'. This change is reflected in the new manual that is available for download.

How do I unlock the locked versions on the CD-ROM?

The main versions that need unlocking are the NAS, NIV, NRSV, and NLT. The NKJV royalty is prepaid when you purchase the CD.

To purchase an unlock code, contact Customer Service, or give them a call at 1-800-778-3390. They will have the current pricing. You will then need to go to Utilities > Unlock Versions in the Online Bible and follow the directions there.

The option to unlock with codes is grayed out on my 'Utilities' menu. What can I do?

First, check that the CD is in the drive and make sure that it is not dirty. Second, try reconfiguring your copy of "The Word."

How do I reconfigure The Word?

    1. Pull down the 'Tools' menu
    2. If you don't see diagnostics, you need to enable advanced user mode:
      • Select 'Customise Settings' from the 'Tools' menu.
      • Check the box labeled 'Advanced User Mode'
      • Click OK
    3. Select 'Diagnostics'
    4. Click 'Reconfigure Program'
    5. Close 'The Word' and restart.
    6. Once you restart 'The Word', your computer will be scanned for all available modules.

I downloaded an update or module for The Word. Now what do I do with this file?

All downloadable files are self-extracting, self-installing modules. Simply double click the downloaded file on your computer to install it. Next time you start The Word, you will need to preselect your new modules to use them. This is done under the View > Preselect Items menu. (Shortcut is F9)

How do I run The Word without the CD in the drive?

First, preselect all the modules that you want to be on your hard drive by pressing F9. Second, pull down the 'Tools' menu and select 'Copy CD Items to Hard Drive'. Select which modules you want depending on how much hard drive space you have, and click 'Copy'. Click 'Help' for suggestions on which modules to copy. When done, click 'Exit'. You should now be able to start The Word without the CD in the drive.

Should I purchase The Word, or just download the free components?

PLEASE NOTE: The vast library included in The Word contains works from different theological persuasions, extra-Biblical texts such as the Apocrypha, and the Koran. While most of the library is Biblically sound, Answers in Genesis does not necessarily endorse all of these works. They are included by the publishers of The Word to enhance your personal research and study.
