Ashamed of “I Am Not Ashamed”?

An atheist claims that if God exists He wouldn’t need an ad campaign. Jeremy Ham, AiG–U.S., shows that the true God of the Bible needs no other proof than what He already gave us.

Thanks for the commercials your group has been running. Proves even further that god does not exist. Hopefully the more you advertise, reasonable intelligent people will look at why being Christian is shameful. A large portion like myself will look at who created magic man Jesus. People that believed the planet was flat. People with very little education. I would be ashamed at being so stupid that I believed in Jesus and god. About as real as Santa and the Easter bunny.............I' am not ashamed nor scared that don't believe in religion or gods created by people vastly uneducated. Please keep advertising--if god was real he wouldn't need marketing campaigns aimed at the gullible! [Profanity removed as per feedback rules] Jesus freaks................

Thanks. The “I Am Not Ashamed” campaign—along with the commercials on the Fox News Channel and 60 Minutes—started in late February. On IAmNotAshamed.org, people have the ability to post comments via Facebook. There have been negative and positive comments, as might be expected, but the majority have been positive comments from people just finding out about this campaign. Most of the negative comments have been from atheists in a form such as “I am not ashamed of being an atheist.”

But the sheer fact that they admit shame exists is further confirmation that the Genesis is literal history, as shame comes out of a literal Genesis (Genesis 2:25; 3:7) and cannot be accounted for in an atheistic worldview.

Proves even further that god does not exist. Hopefully the more you advertise, reasonable intelligent people will look at why being Christian is shameful.

How do commercials prove “that god does not exist”? This is irrelevant—no one has given any proof that God doesn’t exist. The only way to prove that God doesn’t exist is if one is transcendental—or, in other words, God, which would be self-refuting. The God of the Scriptures gave of His Word to prove that He does indeed exist:

2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness
Colossians 1:16
For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.

He is the only One who was there at the creation of the universe and the only One qualified to be the ultimate authority on the subject. The “I Am Not Ashamed” commercials are entirely consistent with God's word: the proof that God exists is in His Word. The Christian worldview is based entirely on His Word. Using His Word, we are able to consistently confirm the areas the Word touches on (e.g., biology, geography, astronomy, etc.).

The Christian worldview is the only worldview that makes sense of this world (see Atheism: An Irrational Worldview). For example, morals do not make sense in an atheistic worldview. There is no true basis for morality except from the Word of God. “Intelligent people,” such as Dr. Jason Lisle, an astrophysicist, have helped prove that He does indeed exist (see Dr. Lisle's book, The Ultimate Proof of Creation).

A large portion like myself will look at who created magic man Jesus.

Which Jesus are you talking about? The Jesus of Scripture is the Creator and uncreated (John 1; Colossians 1; Hebrews 1). Unfortunately, most people who are looking for “who created magic man Jesus” will be looking right into a mirror. It is very dangerous to make conclusions of Jesus Christ without consulting His Word. Many people create their own version of God and then attack this straw-God of their own making because they do not want to submit to the real God of Scriptures. The real Jesus, the Jesus of the Bible, is the Creator of the universe:

Colossians 1:15–20
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.
People that believed the planet was flat. People with very little education.

The philosophy that the earth is flat originated with the Greeks. It is sad that even some Christians adopted this philosophy. And yet, had those Christians read their Scriptures, they would have realized that the world was round. Isaiah 40:22 says, “It is He who sits above the circle of the earth.” God created the earth. The Scriptures are inspired by God, so He would know if the earth is round or not. Also, there is quite a bit of Enlightenment-inspired myth about Christians believing in a flat earth—see Creation and the Flat Earth.

Sadly, we consistently see people believing fallible man over God’s Word, and this is common even today, just as you have done. The education systems in today’s world teach that God doesn’t exist and that evolution is fact, which results in people not believing God’s Word because they are listening to man instead (religion of humanism).

Believing fallible man over God’s Word leads to disaster, such as believing that the earth is flat over what God’s Word teaches (Isaiah 40:22; Job 26:10). If people would start using God’s Word to interpret the world instead of man’s word, making the wrong conclusions would diminish greatly!

I would be ashamed at being so stupid that I believed in Jesus and god.

Why do you think it is stupid specifically? Similar to your other fallacies, this is a question-begging epithet fallacy, and none of them prove your point.

About as real as Santa and the Easter bunny.............I' am not ashamed nor scared that don't believe in religion

Everyone has a religion whether they realize it or not. An atheist’s most common religion is secular humanism. So, you do believe in a religion; you just don’t want to believe in the God of the Scriptures. Psalm 14:1 says, “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.’” Many people don’t want to acknowledge God because then they would have to acknowledge a higher authority and submit to God. An atheist’s authority is himself, but will that help them when they stand to face judgment before God?

or gods created by people vastly uneducated.

This idea that man created God is not original, as Darwin himself wrote a similar statement in his book The Descent Of Man. The religion you’re indirectly referencing is called Darwinism, a specific form of humanism. Darwinism incorporates the idea that morals have come from man and his reasoning skills. One has to wonder, how could one trust another person based on his own reasoning when that other person may have evolved differently with different reasoning skills? No one would ever arrive at any absolute moral truth because morality would be in the eye of the beholder according to Darwinism. Unlike the Bible, Darwinism has no basis for morality. If we have all come from slime, then what is the point of morality? It truly does take more “faith” to believe in Darwinism than God's Word.

Please keep advertising--if god was real he wouldn't need marketing campaigns aimed at the gullible! [profanity removed as per feedback rules] Jesus freaks................

This thinking, “if god was real he wouldn’t need marketing campaigns aimed at the gullible!,” is the same as, “if atheists were real they wouldn’t need to send emails.” God doesn’t need anything to convince people because He gave us His Word and that is sufficient.

In the account that Jesus gave on the rich man and Lazarus (Luke 16:19–31), the rich man had died and was in “torment in Hades.” Not wanting the same suffering for his brothers, he asked that someone come from the dead to testify that everything about the torment that they will suffer is true. However, Abraham responded, “They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.” Convinced that someone from the dead would convince his brothers, the rich man said, “No, father Abraham; but if one goes to them from the dead.” Abraham responded, “If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded though one rise from the dead.

2 Corinthians 5:7 states, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.” Christianity is a faith, but a defensible faith:

1 Peter 3:15
But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear

The “defense” or “answers” are in God’s Word, which is the reason for the “I Am Not Ashamed” campaign. If God’s Word can’t convince people to come to Him and acknowledge Him as their authority, then nothing will (Luke 16:31).

I sincerely hope that you will reconsider the truth that is in God's Word,
Jeremy Ham
