Our statement regarding no turkey for the first Thanksgiving was too narrow. It should have specified that turkey was not the main course food of the feast. Historians confirm that the main course was venison and wild fowl, but that the wild fowl was mostly duck and geese. Wild turkey could have been on the menu, but it is far from the turkey we eat today for Thanksgiving dinner. Thank you for pointing out this misleading statement to us. We will make a correction on the website.
