A recent poll revealed that 26% of Canadians believe God created humans within the last 10,000 years. Another 34% believe that God guided the process under which humans developed over millions of years. Only 29% believe evolution occurred with no help from God.
Before getting too excited about 60% of Canadians being open to a Creator, look closer at the categories. The larger group of 34% is still indoctrinated in evolution (i.e., they are “theistic evolutionists”). The smaller group of 26%, which believes God created humans in the past 10,000 years, may still accept evolution of all other creatures over millions of years.
Perhaps future Canadian surveys will pose more specific questions, indicating how many truly hold a view that lines up with Scripture’s account of creation of every kind of living thing just 6,000 years ago.
