A research team is questioning the widely accepted hypothesis that dinosaurs were wiped out by a giant asteroid impact on the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico (Chicxulub). These geoscientists looked at the fossils above and below the layer of sediment left by the asteroid and found the same species—52 in all—both before and after the impact layer.
Since they believe the layers above the asteroid accumulated slowly after the impact—about 300,000 years for 30 feet (9 m) of sediment—the researchers believe the species survived 300,000 years after the asteroid impact.*
The young-earth model offers an alternative view. If the global Flood was the result of major earth movements and catastrophes, including supervolcanoes and asteroid impacts, then all the animals on land were killed in rapid succession and buried under as much as several thousand feet of sediment. This burial occurred in a matter of weeks and months, not hundreds of thousands or millions of years.
