Ken Ham, president of Answers in Genesis, sets the record straight in The True Account of Adam & Eve. Writing for all ages, but primarily for young people in fourth grade and up, he and illustrator Bill Looney paint a beautiful and biblically consistent picture of the world as originally created, the home of the real Adam and Eve. Ken also tackles today’s most-asked questions about the first humans as he tells the account of their creation, temptation, and Fall and then shares God’s plan of salvation.
Was it possible for Adam to name all of the animals in one day? Ken points out that the Bible does not say Adam named all creatures—it says he named the beasts of the field, birds of the air, and cattle (Genesis 2:20). He did not name any of the sea creatures or creeping things; and “beasts of the field” probably refers to only certain types of creatures in the field, not all of the “beasts of the earth” referred to in Genesis 1:24.
Why did God put the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil in the garden and tell Adam not to eat of it? The book explains that God did not create Adam and Eve to be puppets. He wanted them to love Him because they wanted to, not because they were forced to.
What is God’s plan for marriage? It is a beautiful union that is to be one man for one woman.
How long ago were Adam and Eve created? Ken explains the significance of the detailed family trees in the Bible and shows how we use them to calculate that Adam and Eve lived about 6,000 years ago. Some people wonder how the world’s population could have grown to over 7 billion from just 2 people in 6,000 years. But that’s easy to explain. If the total number of people doubled every 150 years, today’s population could have easily arisen since Noah’s Flood. On the other hand, if man evolved 50,000 years ago, and the population doubled every 150 years, we would have one googol people—that is a 1 followed by 100 zeroes!
The True Account of Adam & Eve lays to rest these questions and many others that often lead people to doubt the Bible’s accuracy if left unanswered. The book is easy to understand and filled with gorgeous illustrations, an inspiring and informative read for the entire family.
