Be a Living Light

on March 7, 2012

Jesus gave many of His creatures the ability to create light in the darkest places. And He wants us to shine our lights, too.

While we aren’t bioluminescent and we can’t make our skin glow, we can make light in another way. Here’s how Jesus put it: "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:16).

The darkness around us isn’t from a lack of sunshine. Instead, it’s a spiritual darkness. Many people all around the world don’t know Jesus as the Creator and Savior. They don’t know He came to die on the Cross.

And that’s where we come in. When we share the good news about Jesus and show His love through our actions, we let our lights shine. Other people see and realize just how much God loves them.

To let your light shine, think up ways you can help others. Here are some ideas to get you started:

  1. Eat lunch with someone who usually eats alone.
  2. Offer to do a chore for an elderly neighbor.
  3. Give a toy or book to someone who doesn’t have many.
