“And having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace. . .” Ephesians 6:15 (ESV)
Soldiers in ancient times wore shoes with nails that stuck out on the bottom. Although that may not sound comfortable, the nails helped the soldiers to walk quickly on rough terrain (like spikes on the bottom of our shoes today).
Once we know the truth, we need to share it with others! When we put on the shoes of the gospel of peace, we are preparing to tell others the good news that we can have peace with God—become citizens of His kingdom—through believing in Jesus. Who can you tell about Jesus?
“How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!’” (Romans 10:14–15)
