Study Your Science!

The Pew Research Center recently conducted a survey to find out what Americans think of science and what scientists think of science. It found some interesting results.

• A majority of those surveyed in the U.S. public agreed (84 percent) that science has had a “mostly positive” effect on society. Only 6 percent considered science to have had a “mostly negative” effect.
• Those surveyed had a more negative view of U.S. success in science. Only 17 percent of the surveyed public considered U.S. scientific achievements to be the “best in the world.” However, when scientists were asked the same question, 49 percent of them thought that U.S. scientific achievements were the best.
• Only 33 percent of surveyed scientists answered that they believe in God. However, 83 percent of the surveyed public said that they believe in God. Don’t be surprised if your science teacher is an atheist! Of all the surveyed scientists, chemists were the most likely to believe in God.

The conclusion of the study is that both creationists and evolutionists generally view science positively. On that point, we agree. Answers in Genesis is filled with, and supported by, individuals who love sound science. Science based on observation helps us to understand our world and to develop new technology. We are firm believers in good science.

The Bible and good science are not opposed to each other. In fact, studying science can teach you many things about the world God created. Just make sure what you study is good science, supported by the Bible, and not someone else's made-up ideas about what has happened in the past.
