Many scientists assumed that Magyarosaurus dacus was an enormous sauropod, when its bones were discovered nearly 115 years ago in Romania. These scientists concluded that the newly found bones had belonged to a juvenile (not fully grown) dinosaur, since larger sauropod bones were found near the smaller M. dacus bones. A new study has completely changed these long-standing conclusions. Now scientists believe that a fully grown M. dacus was about the size of a horse!

Koen Stein, from the Steinmann Institute Division of Paleontology, in Germany, decided to furthur study the bones of several M. dacus dinosaurs. Using bone samples from nineteen different M. dacus, Stein studied the fragments carefully using a microscope. He looked for changes that normally occur in bones as dinosaurs age. Stein concluded that the small bones belonged to a fully grown M. dacus, which would be about the size of a horse. 1

Isn’t it amazing that scientific theories can change so much as we gain more knowledge? But there is one thing that never changes, and that is God’s word, the Bible. We can never go wrong by using the Bible to help interpret scientific data. For instance, the Bible says that land dinosaurs, including M. dacus, were created by God on the sixth day of the creation week, around 6,000 years ago (Genesis 1:24–25). Creation scientists conclude that dinosaur bones are NOT millions of years old. The Bible also says that two of every kind were with Noah on the Ark during a global Flood, which would mean dinosaurs were on the Ark, too.
