Q: If I am not in the U.S. can I still take the courses?
A: Absolutely! We have had many international students (from 20 different countries) participate in the courses. Since there are no specific times that you have to be online, being in another country is not a problem. Participating in the optional live “office hours” chats may not be possible, but all of the other parts of the course are accessible to anyone with an internet connection. You must purchase the course from the U.S. bookstore either on the web or by phone.
Q: Do I have to have internet access to participate in the courses?
A: Yes. All of the course content is delivered online, so you must have an internet connection. Since many of the lessons use videos, a high-speed connection is highly recommended. If you use a dial-up connection or have limited bandwidth you can purchase the videos used in the course at a discounted rate.
Q: Will I receive anything in the mail?
A: No. All of the materials are delivered online, so you will not receive anything in the mail. About two weeks before the course begins, you will receive an email explaining how to create your student account and begin the coursework.
Q: Are there any specific times that I have to be online?
A: Not necessarily. The self-paced APO 111 course has no specific times which you must be online. All of the other courses have the option of a weekly live “office hours” chat with the instructor. The Biology, Geology, and Astronomy courses have optional chats with AiG staff scientists. All other aspects of the courses are done at your own pace in each lesson week. You will have access to the lesson materials, discussion forums, and videos at your convenience during the week, so there is no specific time to be online.
Q: Can I receive college credit for these courses?
A: AiG is not an accredited learning institution so we do not offer credit for the courses. We do offer a certificate of completion for anyone finishing the courses with a grade of 75%. We do cooperate with ACSI to grant teacher continuing education units (CEUs) at the student’s request. The Master’s College in California offers three credits for the completion of our Foundations courses.
God’s Bible School in Ohio offers credits for our Foundations course if you enroll through them as a student. Alternatively, many schools grant credit for the completion of online courses on an individual basis. We can provide a syllabus and grades to any institution at the student’s request.
Q: Can I receive high school credit for these courses?
A: The answer to that question depends on individual state laws. Most states would accept these courses as credit, but please check with your state’s requirements. If you are homeschooling, these courses would be most appropriate as a humanities credit, not a science credit, since they focus on the apologetics, not the scientific content.
