Future “racial reconciliation” conferences planned
Last Saturday (March 4, 2000), Ken Ham of AiG had the privilege of speaking to dozens of black Christian leaders who gathered for breakfast in a Kansas City minority neighborhood. They warmly received Ken’s talk that summarized his new ground-breaking book “One Blood: The Biblical Answer to Racism.”
An invited guest for this specially arranged meeting, Ham shared with these leaders that the book of Genesis—the foundational book of the Bible for all Christian doctrine—offers the answer to today’s critical issue of racial reconciliation. Furthermore, he declared that the Bible even explains why we have the different people groups (“races”) today: all people are related going back to Adam and Eve, and thus we are all of “one blood” (Acts 17:26). Ham also encouraged the pastors to avoid using the word “race” because heavy evolutionary overtones have greatly influenced how people think about this word.
Incidentally, these topics will be discussed in detail when Ken keynotes the 4th annual “National Multi-Racial Conference” in Indianapolis on April 5-7—see our speakers’ calendar.
Directly after the breakfast meeting (attended by about 100 black leaders and other interested Christians), Ham was approached by some of the pastors to consider holding a major “Answers in Genesis” seminar in Kansas City that would address the question of the “origin of races” and the Bible’s solution to racism. AiG will be following up those pastors and will look for a suitable time-frame and an adequate-sized facility (an AiG seminar in Kansas two years ago required a large auditorium in Wichita; that seminar, by the way, was one of the contributing factors to a grassroots campaign that eventually led the state board of education to de-emphasize the teaching of evolution in its schools).
Also present at the breakfast meeting was a chapter leader of the civil rights organization, the NAACP, who expressed his appreciation of AiG’s message. To find out more about AiG’s Bible-upholding teachings on the topic of “races,” see our special pack for the “One Blood” book and video, and also listen to Ken Ham on Real Audio as he discusses this important issue.
