Museum’s marathon man!

September 6, 2000

Steven Dickinson hopes to achieve one of his life goals on October 1: completing a marathon. But what makes that personal goal even more significant is his incentive to endure the rigorous 26-mile run—he wants to help AiG raise funds for its Creation Museum and Family Discovery Center (to be built in the Cincinnati, Ohio area of the United States).

Steven Dickinson

In a recent email, he stated to us: “About five years ago I decided to run in a marathon. Now after much training, I hope to accomplish this goal on October 1, 2000, by running through eight communities in the Appleton, Wisconsin area for the Fox Cities Marathon.”

He continued: “I’m hoping that Christians will match my effort with an effort of their own.” Mr. Dickinson is asking people to get involved by sponsoring him at $1 per mile. His goal is not only to finish the 26 miles (and he’s confident that he can do that, with the Lord’s help) but also find 400 people who would donate at least $26 each, so that the museum could receive a minimum of $10,000 in contributions.

Although Wisconsin is hundreds of miles from AiG’s museum property, Mr. Dickinson realizes that the Creation Museum in Northern Kentucky (near Cincinnati) will be more than just an outreach to the states nearest the museum, but will be one that will impact much of America. Through such things as internet exposure, it will also have a flow-on effect to influencing the rest of the world, too. Mr. Dickinson is deeply concerned about the increasing anti-Christian sentiment in the nation, much of it being fueled by the evolutionary humanism that dominates America’s public schools, media, and almost all natural history museums. As a result, millions now doubt the Bible and are not as open to the gospel.

Mr. Dickinson wants to see the Creation Museum become an outreach to tens of thousands of visitors each year, and thus help America return to a belief in the authority of the Bible and its gospel message.

Mr. Dickinson has already begun encouraging people to support his marathon effort to benefit the Creation Museum. U.S. visitors to this site can submit a secure donation online.

Mr. Dickinson hopes that some AiG supporters will sponsor him at even $2, $3 per mile—or even more. If you would prefer to donate by phone (with credit card), call this U.S. number: 1-800-350-3232, ext. 455, or mail a check (earmarked for “October 1 marathon”) to AiG, P.O. Box 6330, Florence, KY 41048.

If you have an unusual fund-raising idea for the Creation Museum, please let us know.
