Ham and Gitt re-broadcast

October 13, 2000

If you missed the LIVE webcasts of Ken Ham and Dr. Werner Gitt in late September, this is your opportunity to hear them.

Two lectures were held the evening of September 25, 2000 at a church in the beautiful town of State College, Pennsylvania, USA. About 1,000 people came to the meetings to be informed about fundamental questions concerning the trustworthiness of the Bible, with the central theme being “Creation.”

What is information and where does it come from?

In the Beginning Was InformationIn the Beginning Was Information
Dr. Werner Gitt

This book discusses the origin of life from the viewpoint of information science with many illustrative and striking examples to clarify the following questions--What is the origin of information? What are the laws of nature about information? How did language and communication develop? Is artificial intelligence possible?

The first talk, given by Ken Ham, executive director of Answers in Genesis, was entitled “Defending the Christian faith in a secular age” (listen now listen now!). Ken first of all talked about the fact that most Christians don’t know how to defend their faith in today’s world. When asked questions such as, “Where did Cain get his wife?”; “Where did God come from?”; “How do we know there’s a God?”; “How do you explain dinosaurs?”; “How did Noah get the animals (including dinosaurs) on the Ark?” and so on, he emphasized that most Christians don’t know how to give answers to those questions, thus they can’t defend the Christian faith and uphold the authority of the word of God. The reason that non-Christians ask these questions is to challenge Christians to defend their faith but they are really challenging them to defend the historicity of the word of God.

Ken Ham first of all answered the questions, “How do we know there is a God?” and, “Where did God come from?” as a lead-up to the second session where Dr. Gitt took this information to a much deeper level. Ken showed clearly that the information systems of life could never have arrived from matter on their own. Information had to come from information, and the code system in our cells that is essentially the program that builds life had to come from a mental source. That is what scientists observe in today’s world. In the second session Dr. Gitt takes this to a much deeper lever and shows as an information scientist that the information systems of life had to come from an infinite intelligence thus, “In the beginning, God …”

In the first session Ken also showed how Christians have to believe in the six literal days of creation. If they don’t do this they undermine the entire authority of the word of God. He explained that one cannot have death, disease and suffering before sin because that would destroy the whole basis of the gospel. And yet those Christians who believe in millions of years have to accept death and diseases like cancer before sin because these diseases are found in the fossil record that they purport to be millions of years old.

Ken also showed that all biblical doctrines of theology are based in the history in Genesis 1–11. If Genesis 1–11 is not history it can’t be trusted and there is no foundation for Christian doctrine. He showed clearly that the supposed old earth versus young earth argument is in reality an argument of biblical authority versus man’s opinion. This is a very hard-hitting lecture challenging Christians to stand up for the authority of the Word of God and not succumb to pressure from the world to add man’s belief about billions of years to the Bible.

The second lecture, “In the beginning was information” (listen now listen now!), was given by Dr. Werner Gitt, director and professor of the Institute of Technology at Braunschweig. Dr. Gitt, as an information scientist, presented a lot more detail about “information.” He explained how to define information and that when one looks at DNA one finds that it fulfills all the parameters and comes within the definition of information. If one is to believe in evolution one has to believe that matter generated information for life to form and that for millions of years, millions of times, new information had to be generated. This information also depends upon a code system. Science shows that code systems always come from a mental source and information always comes from information. Thus Dr. Gitt showed that, as an information scientist, one cannot believe, “In the beginning, the cosmos;” one has to believe, “In the beginning, God …” because that is the most logical, defensible statement one can make. It fits with real science and makes sense of the world.

Both of these lectures are really lectures in apologetics to enable Christians in today’s secular world to stand firm in their faith and to courageously and boldly proclaim the authority of the Word of God without fear of the scientists of the age who are their own authority and base their beliefs on questionable logic and ever-changing “facts.”
