Too Little, Too Late, Too Old, Too Ill-Trained, Too . . .

Excuse-making. It’s a terrible “disease.” But Louise E., who is nearing her 90th birthday, isn’t making excuses.

Excuse-making. It’s a terrible “disease.” Christ warned about it in the parable of the great supper (Luke 14:16–24). But Louise E., who is nearing her 90th birthday, isn’t making excuses.

Last year was the first time she heard the AiG message, when Ken Ham spoke at Jerry Falwell’s Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Virginia, USA. Louise got so excited about hearing answers for the younger generation, that she’s been attending AiG conferences ever since. She wants to start bringing young people, too, who need to learn that God’s Word can be trusted from the very first verse.

“I grew up in a generation that believed the Scriptures. But people have been drifting away, and it is appalling to me. It’s so distressing that young people in public schools are dropping out of the things of the Lord. It’s been so hard to reach young people.

“I’m so excited that the Lord is bringing all this truth out, leaving no stone unturned. I’m so excited that the Lord is doing all this now, and I’m excited about the Creation Museum you’re building in Kentucky.” It’s clear to Louise that the true history in the Book of Genesis is at the heart of today’s battle for the souls of young people.

For many years, Louise and her husband (who is now with the Lord) had a passion to reach young people. This couple was instrumental in getting a Christian school opened in their area, and Louise is delighted that the Lord has allowed her to live long enough to see the first class graduate last year. (The Lord also allowed her to have 4 daughters, 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren!)

Louise hasn’t let age, ailments or education slow her down. She would gladly do anything, she says, to reach just one young person for Christ. She admits that her education has been limited, and she’s a bit shy about her own abilities. “I am not a Ph.D.,” she admits. But she adds with a smile: “Somebody said, ‘When you’re Past Having Doubts about the Scripture, you have a Ph.D.’”

Louise’s zest for the Lord at her age reminds us of Rebecca D., who last year wrote to AiG-Australia that “the magazine ‘Creation’ is the most educational and inspiring magazine I’ve ever had the pleasure to read. I am, as of Mar. 8th 2002, 89 years old. I ‘preach’ to people with your uplifting magazine. Thank you!”

Perhaps the example of Louise and Rebecca can inspire us all to resist the temptation to make excuses. And it’s encouraging to know that great materials like Creation magazine can make the witnessing so much easier, helping bring people to their Creator and Savior!

Post Script: Louise had eye surgery recently, so she wears glasses, but she’s still willing at her age to travel to AiG conferences. Please pray for Louise, that she would find a young person—with an open heart—to go with her to the conference in Eden, North Carolina, 31 August–1 September.
