The Old Schoolhouse, a fast-growing magazine for homeschoolers, has selected Answers in Genesis as the winner of their “Excellence in Education Award,” primarily for our new Genesis curriculum It All Begins with Genesis.

The full review, available now on The Old Schoolhouse website, will be featured in their Winner's Circle in the upcoming winter issue. Homeschoolers are pretty particular about the information they trust for their children—so these glowing words, which appear in the opening to the review, made us blush:

“The Holy Spirit is the One Who regenerates souls, but the impact that Answers in Genesis is having, in teaching an uncompromising view of God’s Word, and showing thousands, perhaps even millions, the truth that our desperate need of a Savior is rooted in the Genesis account, will only clearly be seen in heaven.”

The Old Schoolhouse Magazine

A “gold mine” for homeschooling families

When AiG first published It All Begins With Genesis: Learning to Think Biblically About the World, our prayer and heart’s desire was to give parents, teachers and churches the most powerful tools available to give Christian young people a solid foundation for the rest of their lives. According to The Old Schoolhouse reviewers, it appears that this resource meets the test:

“Are you looking for a challenging, faith-solidifying curriculum to use with your student? Recommended for ages 10–14, but appropriate for older students as well, It All Begins With Genesis is a 34-lesson jam-packed journey through Genesis 1–11, which will become a boundary stone in your child’s development of worldview. It is designed to fit as a Sunday school curriculum, but can easily be used in the homeschool.

“The study has three goals: That the student begin to solidify a Biblical worldview, that the book of Genesis be studied in depth, and that the student learn the principles of inductive Bible study. This course surpasses these goals to help us equip our Christian children to stand strong in a fallen world. [Emphasis in original]

“The teacher’s manual is well organized and detailed. Each lesson consists of Scripture, suggested memory verse, overview of the lesson, goals for the lesson, teacher preparation, class work and discussion. This is not just talking stuff. There are hands-on teaching ideas as well as skits.

“The accompanying student edition is life changing. The student is led through reading, observing and drawing conclusions from Scripture. They are encouraged to challenge other views and replace them with solid Biblical truth.

“Whether you are looking for a program for your own child or for something to use in a Sunday school or Christian school setting, check this out. This new product continues the tradition of excellence and depth we would expect from Answers in Genesis.”

Product review by Christine Field, senior correspondent, The Old Schoolhouse

“The review was actually written by three individuals on staff,” explained magazine co-publisher Gena Suarez. “The review (and the award) is based on the ministry as a whole, not simply the materials AiG produces but also on the many materials AiG makes available. AiG has selected a perfect blend of resources which is (in our opinion) a gold mine for the average Christian homeschooling family.”

AiG’s “enormous impact on the Christian homeschooling community”

This ministry is all about serving the church with resources—of every kind—that challenge and equip the church. We count it a privilege and honor to be used by the Lord in this way. The publishers of The Old Schoolhouse have encouraged their readers to take advantage of the full range of AiG resources, not just our curricula, but also our web articles, Creation magazine, TJ, videos, speakers, etc.

In the review of AiG’s It All Begins with Genesis curriculum, this publisher’s note appears:

“As the publishers of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine, we felt it necessary to include a few thoughts regarding the review of Answers in Genesis. This mainstream ministry and their staff have touched millions of people worldwide but they may not fully understand the enormous impact they are also making on the Christian homeschooling community.

“In their own words, ‘Answers in Genesis is a Christian apologetics ministry that equips the church to uphold the authority of the Bible from the very first verse. The thousands of articles and media programs [AiG makes available] answer questions about creation/evolution, dinosaurs and much more.’

“AiG produces many materials to equip the believer with a solid biblical worldview. They also retail a good number of further materials developed by other ministries. What they have ended up with is a gold mine of ‘curricula’ for homeschool families everywhere, and homeschool conference directors are quick to bring AiG ministry heads and their materials out on location.

“Our son, Paul, has been going through a number of items AiG either produces or makes available and is learning a good amount of science and history. Two of his favorite resources are both the TJ and Creation magazine. Of course, the DVDs (so many are available!) thrill him even more.

“We have been blessed beyond what was expected in our own homeschool by AiG. In fact, our son wrote some notes about his experiences with their materials so far. We encourage homeschool parents to check out AiG’s online store, AiG’s online store

Ken Ham now a regular contributor to The Old Schoolhouse

The publishers, Paul and Gena Suarez, have gone out of their way to promote the message of biblical authority beginning with Genesis, which they feel very strongly about.

For instance, they have asked Ken Ham, president/CEO of AiG-US, to become a regular contributor to The Old Schoolhouse.

Also, the fall issue of The Old Schoolhouse, which is now available at Barnes and Noble bookstores or online, prominently features AiG’s Creation Museum, now under construction near Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.

Another evidence of the publisher’s heart for the creation/Genesis message is a recent offer to send a complimentary copy of Creation magazine to new subscribers to their magazine. The publishers explained:

“They will receive a complimentary copy of Creation magazine with their order. Then, they can take that and love it like we do, subsequently subscribing to it, as well. Homeschool families should subscribe to Creation magazine; we really feel strongly about that!”

If you’ve never taken the time to check out some of AiG’s award-winning materials, now might be a good time! We’re not after awards or praise of men, we simply want to challenge Christians with what we believe are the most life-changing truths of God’s Word for our generation.

We urge you, even if you do not have children or grandchildren of your own, to consider what you can do to train up young people in your church with the truths that will “gird up their loins” for Christian warfare in today’s humanistic, evolutionized society (Ephesians 6:10–18).
