Abortion Argument Unravels

A preview of the September 2005 issue of Creation Magazine.

Creation 27(4)

September 2005 issue

Every day 126,000 lives are ended by abortion. Forty-six million babies are aborted annually around the world. In the United States alone, over 3,700 abortions are performed each day. Fifty-two percent of the women getting an abortion are under the age of 25.

In this month’s Creation magazine, Alexander Williams writes, “While the demand for abortion grows, so does the scientific case against the arguments often used to support it.” While the world may not be ready for these scientific arguments, they cannot be ignored.

Every unborn child defends itself against its mother as the baby’s immune system battles the mother’s T-cell attack—a natural occurrence when “foreign” tissue is introduced into a person’s body. In a landmark 1998 paper, researchers at the Medical College of Georgia, in Augusta, GA, USA, found that the mammalian embryo produces a special enzyme called indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase, or “IDO,” which supresses the mother’s T-cell reaction and allows pregnancy to proceed.

What is signficant in this research is that, contrary to the proabortion lobby, the baby inside a mother’s womb is not part of her body. The baby has a unique genetic makeup—one that would cause the mother to reject it as “foreign” if it were not for this special enzyme!

This powerful principle is highlighted in this month’s Creation magazine, along with a number of excellent articles that once again enable us to understand modern science in the context of God’s creation and His Holy Word.

Ken Ham’s article entitled “Turning Greeks into Jews” highlights the need for the church today to start at “square one” in teaching the Bible. Modern man has little biblical knowledge and an overwhelming cultural disadvantage when trying to answer life’s big questions. It is only as the church realizes that we need to go back to the foundation of a literal Genesis that we will see revival in North America and beyond.

Also in this edition, Dr. Jonathan Sarfati interviews Ting Wang, noted Hebrew scholar and lecturer at Stanford University in California. Dr. Wang is an incredibly interesting scholar, one who has studied extensively. He studied both Hebrew and Greek so he could know the truth. In his own words, “the Word is so important that I did not want to read a translation!”

A Proven Evangelistic Tool!

Families, pastors and offices around the world are finding that Creation opens doors to evangelism like no other tool. Each article “pre-evangelizes,” breaking down barriers (2 Corinthians 10:4–5) that normally would prevent modern, secularized people from recognizing the authority of God’s Bible and heeding His gospel.

Readers regularly order gift subscriptions, too, for doctor’s offices, libraries, friends and acquaintances, because they’ve seen how the beautiful graphics and intriguing articles reach people.

Creation magazine is one of the world’s most significant publications in the area of creationism and biblical authority.
