Q: Why did the question of Cain’s wife come up at the famous Scopes trial?
A: ACLU lawyer Clarence Darrow cleverly arranged for William Jennings Bryan, seen to be representing Christianity, to be on the witness stand. Darrow asked Bryan a number of questions to put Bryan’s belief in the Bible to the test.

Evolutionist quote of the week
“Imaginations run riot in conjuring up an image of our most ancient ancestor—the creature that gave rise to both apes and humans. This ancestor is not apparent in ape or human anatomy nor in the fossil record.
“…anatomy and the fossil record cannot be relied upon for evolutionary lineages. Yet palaeontologists persist in doing just this.”
– J. Lowenstein and A. Zihlman, The invisible ape, New Scientist 120(1641):56, 57, 1988.

One of the questions Darrow asked was, “Who was Cain’s wife?” Since the Bible teaches that God created only one man and one woman to start with and Genesis only specifically lists three names for Adam and Eve’s children (all sons), non-Christians have repeatedly asked where Cain got his wife in attempts to stump Christians and mock the Bible.
Sadly, Bryan, a Christian, let Bible-believers down. He didn’t have an answer. What a difference it would have made if he had explained that Genesis 5:4 teaches that Adam and Eve had sons and daughters—and that the law against close relatives marrying didn’t come until the time of Moses (Leviticus 18–20).
Learn the lesson of the Scopes trial: be able to give answers when people question your faith!
This past Wednesday evening, the History Channel presented “Scopes: The battle over America’s soul.” In the past, numerous falsities have been portrayed in the media concerning this major court case. As a result, we have provided an excerpt of a brand-new booklet written by Dr. David Menton that dispels several of the myths surrounding the “trial of the century.” See An “expected” slant?
