Q: Since fish weren’t taken aboard the Ark, how did they survive the catastrophic events of Noah’s Flood?

A: Well, most fish didn’t survive such a cataclysm. If you could have been diving in the oceans before the Flood, and then again after the Flood, you probably would have said something like, “What happened? Where’s everything gone?” That’s because most marine species were killed during the Flood. However, there still were lots of fish that didn’t become extinct, because we see their descendents in the oceans today.

Noncreationist quote of the week

“With all of the contradictions in the Christian scriptures, many people currently cannot rationally accept Christianity the way it has been practiced in the past. Great numbers of people are beginning to doubt the existence of God, in the established Christian sense of the word. So, they have taken to calling themselves ‘Christian Atheist’?

“If prominent leaders of the Christian faith are rejecting the past interpretation of God, how then can their followers be expected to adhere to previous religious tradition?”

– Anton Szandor LaVey, The Satanic Bible, p. 43.

This leads to a related question, “How did freshwater fish survive in the saltwater oceans?” There are a number of possibilities.

First, there are many areas in the world today where we see freshwater and saltwater together, but the two waters aren’t mixed. So it’s possible that certain organisms could have survived in pockets of fresh or saltwater.

Secondly, because of natural selection, today’s organisms have become very specialized. Yet even despite this specialization, many of today’s species of fish are able to adjust to both freshwater and saltwater. This suggests that the ability to tolerate large changes in salinity was present in many fish at the time of the Flood.

You can definitely find logical answers when you start with Genesis and use real science!
