2008 Year in Review—Answers to Change Lives

Dear friend of AiG,

Next year marks the 200th anniversary of Darwin's birth and the 150th anniversary of the publishing of his book On the Origin of Species. The teachings of Darwin have permeated the globe with devastating consequences. Wherever there is a formal education system, television programs, magazines, etc., people have been indoctrinated in Darwin's ideas to believe that life arose by natural processes—without God.

We believe the Lord has raised up AiG in this era of history to counter Darwin's teachings, equip Christians to defend the truth of God's Word, and proclaim the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ.

Throughout this annual report, you will read testimonies from individuals impacted by the ministry of Answers in Genesis, as God has blessed. That is what the AiG ministry is all about—impacting and changing lives for Christ.

Changing Lives through the Creation Museum

This past year, the Creation Museum has not only been a center for Christians to restore their confidence in biblical history, but also a place where searching souls have found Christ as their Savior. Below are just a few of the ways that your faithful support this past year has contributed to this God–honoring outreach and has made you a part of this life-changing ministry:

• Over 400,000 guests visited the museum in the first year and over 600,000 in the 18 months since it opened!
• The Petting Zoo opened in May 2008 and was funded through a generous donation from an Australian foundation. Showing that Noah only needed two of each kind of land animal aboard the Ark, this living exhibit reveals the incredible variety that God programmed into each animal kind, using our unique zoo animals, such as the zorse, zonkey, and miniature donkeys, which are all part of the horse family.
• This past Christmas season the Creation Museum presented Bethlehem's Blessings, the museum's first live nativity outreach. The nativity, complete with live actors, included elaborate decorations and lights throughout the museum and the nature trails. This outreach—free to the public—was a tremendous opportunity for AiG to share the true story of Christmas!

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear. (1 Peter 3:15 KJV)

Changing Lives through Teaching and Proclaiming

With 10 full-time speakers, Answers in Genesis has provided over 300 teaching events (and more than 1,000 presentations) this past year—equipping over 200,000 people worldwide. These life-impacting events teach and train Christians how to defend and trust the authority of Scripture, as well as to lead others to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

One of AiG's exciting and growing teaching outreaches is our Video Conference Coordinator (VCC) program. AiG has recently trained a team of 120 volunteers across the country to be VCCs in their local area. They have conducted over 75 video conferences since January 2008 at no charge to the church except to consider a love offering. These dedicated volunteers are critical to get AiG's message to churches who otherwise could not afford to have an AiG speaker travel to their area.

Changing lives—Worldwide

Answers Worldwide, headed by Dr. David Crandall, is the missionary arm of AiG and is involved in taking the message of the authority of Scripture around the world. The Answers Worldwide website, www.answersworldwide.org, not only tells the exciting story of this missionary outreach but also provides access to translated articles. This critical outreach is entirely supported by donations.

Some of this past year's exciting accomplishments and upcoming events include:

• April 2008 International Training Seminar brought 10 international leaders to AiG to be trained as creation speakers. Plans are being made to train more leaders in 2009.
• Various AiG resources were translated into 77 languages.
• Ken Ham's basic presentations were recorded live with translations into Chinese, Hindi, and Telugu.
• Preparation for an evangelistic and teaching outreach at the 2010 Vancouver, Canada, Winter Olympics.
• Special emphasis on the "10/40 window" of unreached millions.
• Preparation for the 2009 Japanese creation conference and video taping in Tokyo.

Changing Lives through Educational Resources—Major Media

One of the greatest burdens that the Lord has given to Answers in Genesis is to equip believers to defend their faith. Over 50 new resources were developed in the past year alone. As shown over the next few pages, these resources include everything from curriculum to additions to our award-winning website.

• Answers Magazine—With nearly 70,000 subscribers, this acclaimed apologetics resource, complete with a children's pull-out section, illustrates the importance of defending the authority of Scripture starting in Genesis. By answering the questions of our age, it equips readers to more effectively communicate the gospel to a lost and dying world.
• Award-Winning Website—AnswersInGenesis.org is one of the most-visited Christian websites in the world. The website's daily updates, teaching articles, and downloads for teaching tools help educate our visitors and equip them to train others. Another tremendous website "extra" is Ken Ham's daily blog that keeps our ministry friends and partners up to date on current behind-the-scenes events.
  • Averaging 30,000 page views per day
  • Over 6,000 free articles
• Radio Outreach—This tremendous outreach tool is a 90-second, relevant-to-the-culture feature that has grown into a network of over 900 radio stations worldwide. The Answers with Ken Ham radio program tackles the issues of the day and equips listeners to defend the Bible, allowing them to witness more effectively to a skeptical, questioning world.

Changing Lives through Educational Resources—Curriculum, Books & DVDs

Curriculum—AiG's talented team of writers, educators, and editors develops material ranging from textbooks to online education courses, Sunday school curricula, homeschool courses, and Vacation Bible School programs. 2008 accomplishments include:

• Vacation Bible School Curriculum
  • Over 2,000 Amazon Expedition VBS curriculum kits were shipped, reaching tens of thousands of children
  • AiG's latest VBS curriculum, Operation Space—available early spring of 2009
• Curriculum Series
  • History Revealed Curriculum—world history from a biblical perspective; reveals God's sovereignty down through the ages
  • God's Design Series—completely updated 12-book science curriculum that is designed to include God as Creator in all aspects of science
• Family Resources—Dozens of new books, DVDs, and other apologetics materials produced last year
  • A 4-part DVD series on essential apologetics by Brian Edwards
  • Global Warming DVD in conjunction with Coral Ridge Ministries

Changing Lives through Research

The Answers in Genesis research team, headed by Dr. Andrew Snelling (Ph.D. in geology), is crucial to provide documented information and new publications for investigative purposes to AiG staff, partners, and worldwide friends. Their expertise is critical to the credibility of Answers in Genesis in a skeptical culture.

Here are a couple of the past year's research accomplishments:

• Launch and development of the free online
• Presentation at the Sixth International Conference on Creationism of six technical papers by AiG staff, and their publication in the conference proceedings volume

Financial Integrity

Answers in Genesis recognizes that financial integrity is foremost in a ministry as it uses supporters' donations wisely. For this reason, AiG has sought to maintain the highest standards when it comes to our financial affairs, stewardship, and accountability. Below are a few of the actions that AiG has taken to achieve this goal:

The ministry is a member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA, www.ecfa.org), an independent organization that reviews the financial integrity of non-profit evangelical ministries. The annual membership review process includes the submission of audited financial statements and a 990 tax return.

Ken Ham, president and co-founder of Answers in Genesis (AiG), was presented with the National Association of Christian Financial Consultants' (NACFC) 2008 Integrity Award as part of their annual convention in July 2008. This award is presented each year to one recipient by NACFC, a group of investment professionals committed to investment and financial planning disciplines centered upon biblical principles. Answers in Genesis is registered with Guidestar (www.Guidestar.org), an organization committed to advancing the transparency of non-profits. Various financial information and 990 tax returns are available to the public through Guidestar.org.

Recent testimony from donor:

" . . . The decision to donate . . . was a lengthy one. We want to be good stewards of the resources God has entrusted to us. This meant that we would make, at least for us, a significant donation that had some measure of sacrifice (for us) associated with it . . .

Our research showed that AiG is a member of the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability (ECFA), that Ministry Watch has listed them as a Shining Light 'Top 30' Exemplary Ministry for 3 years, and of course we knew that AiG exists to support the Church in fulfilling the Great Commission . . .

Financial Stewardship

The primary source of Answers in Genesis's financial strength is its broad base of dedicated and committed supporters. Without this "grassroots" support, the museum project and other AiG programs would not be possible. Over 22,000 ministry partners made donations in the 2007/08 fiscal year via the Internet, mail, or phone.

AiG has a solid balance of revenue sources, with ministry support coming from three primary sources (see diagram):

• Museum revenue is solely used to support the museum's operations and maintenance. Additional exhibits and upgrades are all donation funded.
• Product sales include revenue from teaching events, educational resources, and the museum bookstore.
• Donations support 60% of all AiG core ministries (non-museum). The Answers Worldwide and Answers Research areas are 100% supported by donations.

The ministry receives 100% private funding with no federal, state, or government funding.

With a focus to be good stewards of the resources the Lord has provided, at least 80% of AiG's revenues go toward ministry programs—far better than the Better Business Bureau's non-profit recommendation of 65% (see diagrams).

New planned exhibit for Creation Museum in 2009

One of the foremost issues in the creation/evolution debate centers around the process of natural selection. With many humanist organizations and secular universities celebrating 2009 as the Year of Darwin (his 200th birthday), Answers in Genesis plans to unveil an exhibit to combat Darwin's ideas of natural selection as the process for molecules-to-man evolution.
