In association with this illustration, you could discuss the genealogies in Scripture that are contained in Genesis, repeated in Chronicles, and then repeated again in the New Testament (such as Matthew and Luke). These genealogies connect the first Adam to the last Adam, who is Jesus Christ.It is obvious that
one could not fit millions of years into those genealogies or it would
destroy them. Therefore, if one is trying to fit millions of years into
the Bible, the only place that one can try to do it is before Adam—which
means you have to reinterpret the six days of Creation. This ultimately
is the main reason that most of the church leaders today question the
days of creation. It has nothing to do with what the text clearly
says, but everything to do with trying to fit millions of years into the
Bible.
