Same World—Different Conclusions

The Biblical history lens

Today there are many differing and varied opinions about where the universe (and everything in it) came from. In the midst of all this confusion, it is possible for Christians to know the true history of 'how it all came to be.' By reading and understanding the Bible-the written revelation of the history of the universe from the Creator of all things-we can learn the important information God wants us to know about past (and future) events. These events are summarized by the 'Seven C's of History'--Creation, Corruption, Catastrophe, Confusion, Christ, Cross, Consummation: God created a ‘very good’ world in six normal-length days; this perfect world was corrupted by Adam’s disobedience to God’s command not to eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil; Adam’s descendants continued to disobey God, so that God judged the wickedness of men by sending a global Flood during the time of Noah; Noah’s descendants disobeyed God’s command to spread out and fill the Earth, so God confused their language, causing them to disperse across the world; Jesus Christ, the last Adam, came to live the perfect life and die on the cross in payment for the sins of mankind, offering eternal life to those who will receive it; believers look forward to the consummation of all things—the new heavens and Earth.

Because the Bible is the infallible Word of the Creator of the universe, we need to allow it to be our final authority in all areas of our lives. The Bible is our 'lens' for understanding the world around us, and through it we can see where we came from, why this world is in the mess it's in, and what we are to do about it.
