Do we believe it?
The secular world’s popularization of its alternate, unbiblical history of the universe has caused many in the church to move away from the belief that there is absolute truth and that the Bible is God’s Word.Sincere Christians have bought into the lie that the earth is billions of years old, and have compromised the words of Scripture to fit this view. This has caused much confusion as the church begins to doubt that Scripture is accurate and authoritative—if the Bible can’t be trusted when it plainly teaches that God created in six days, then how do we know we can trust it in other areas? They ask questions such as:
- How can Adam and Eve be the first man and woman created from the dust of the earth if we evolved from ape-like ancestors?
- Where did Cain's wife come from?
- How could all the animals have fit on Noah’s Ark?
- How could the Flood have covered the entire earth? Where did all the water come from?
This is a very slippery slope that leads toward unbelief, and the minds of those on the slope become more unsettled the farther down they go.
Doubting the words of Scripture is very costly. After all, it is the words of Scripture that provide the basis of our faith.
‘By faith we understand that the worlds were prepared by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things which were visible’ (Hebrews 11:3).
‘But these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name’ (John 20:31).
