A Poor Excuse for a Bird?

Ostrich

You might think an ostrich is a poor excuse for a bird since it can’t fly. If you compare an ostrich to an eagle, the ostrich looks clumsy. But that comparison isn’t fair. Ostriches are designed to run, not fly; in fact, they have more endurance than an Olympic marathon runner!

God designed every living thing with different gifts to accomplish different things. That includes people. We all have special gifts God gave us, and He will show us how to use them when the time is right!

Imagine how it feels when people make fun of your body or speech. Well, that’s exactly what happened to the Apostle Paul, one of the greatest missionaries of all time (1 Corinthians 10:10)! Paul had to remind the Christians of Corinth that God doesn’t compare people this way: “Comparing yourselves with one another, you are not wise” (2 Corinthians 10:12). The only thing that really matters is the Lord’s approval (2 Corinthians 10:18)!

God holds everyone to the same standard: love and honor Him. But we all go our own way. Like sheep gone astray, we sin against Him.

Buddy

Hey, Kids! Buddy Davis here.

Some birds fly, some run, and others swim. God designed them to do what they do. That goes for us, too. None of us can fly, but God gave us abilities to honor Him in other amazing ways!

But the good news is Jesus Christ made a way to help us get back to our original purpose. Jesus took the punishment for our sin. If we admit that we have sinned and accept His sacrifice on the Cross for our salvation, He will change us into a new kind of person, able to do what God intended for us!

Just like ostriches can run and eagles can fly, every one of God’s children can love and honor Him.

“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” —Ephesians 2:10
