This moth caterpillar (Uraba lugens) knows how to keep its head in a dangerous situation.

As it grows and sheds its skin, the “mad hatterpillar” (a nickname based on “the Mad Hatter” in Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland) keeps its molted heads attached to its body. With each molt, it adds another head, resulting in an elaborate hat of stacked noggins. The caterpillar then uses its unique headwear to bat predators away.

This creepy crawly is an example of God’s creative provision for creatures to survive—and look weirdly wonderful—in our fallen world.
