No Gravity, No Problem

Researchers believe they have found a credible explanation for a “gravity hole” (a depression where gravity is weaker than anywhere else on earth) in the Indian Ocean. Using supercomputers, the research team simulated how the mystery spot—called the Indian Ocean Geoid Low—could have formed, supposedly 140 million years ago. In the simulations, the team recreated the tectonic and volcanic forces that presumably reshaped earth. Six out of 19 simulations spawned low-density magma plumes that rose to displace higher-density material, weakening the area’s gravity and resulting in a geoid low similar to the one in the Indian Ocean.

Christians have a more reliable source than simulations to know the history behind this geoid low. The Bible describes the catastrophe of the global Genesis flood, during which earth’s plates shifted rapidly, reshaping earth’s surface. But this was only 4,350 years ago, not 140 million. There hasn’t been enough time since the flood for mantle plumes to stop rising and for the geoid low to ease. So it is still part of our world today, a scar on earth’s surface, evidence left behind by the catastrophic worldwide flood.
