Teaching Tie-In

This week, we’ve been learning about the different attributes, or qualities, of God. Each attribute of God is a precious treasure. And God is 100 percent, fully each attribute. He isn’t part love and part holiness, for instance. He’s 100 percent love and 100 percent holy. He’s perfect in each attribute. Let’s see if you can think of some attributes of God.

Class Time Directions

Give each child a large gem, and have them come up one at a time and say an attribute of God, then put the gem in the jar. See how many they can think of before running out of ideas. Show them the Attributes of God Sheet if they are stumped.

After putting in a lot of the large gems, ask if the jar is full. Keep going until the jar appears full.

As we keep learning about God, we see more of his perfect attributes. Add the smaller crystals to the jar.

Now is the jar full? Take answers, and add the smallest gems if you have a third size of gems. Finally, add water to show that the jar was not full.

The jar was not full, and there are even more attributes of God that we continue to discover and see as we know him better. We have trouble measuring how much to put in the jar to fill it up. However, the Bible tells us in Ephesians 1:19 that God is so incredible that the greatness of his power can’t be measured! We will spend all of eternity learning more about our amazing God, and still, we will never get to know everything about him. That’s how incredible he is!

When complete, you can transfer all the items to a colander with a bowl underneath. The water drains, and by shaking gently back and forth, the larger crystals rise to the surface.

Tip Corner

  • The size of your jar will determine how many gems you need, and how big they should be. The bigger the jar, the bigger the gems and the greater number needed.
  • One test church printed a lot of different attributes of God and posted them all over the walls in the room.
