Hi! Welcome back to the Kids Answers magazine blog, where we answer your big questions about God’s Word and God’s world.

How do you know when you’re tired? Does it feel impossible to keep your heavy eyelids open? Or maybe the muscles in your legs and arms get tired, and you don’t think you’ll be able to take another step. Do you yawn?

For most people, we yawn a lot when we’re feeling tired or bored. Why do we do that?

Though no one really knows for sure, there are lots of ideas about why we yawn. One idea is that our brains get too warm when we’re tired. Yawning can help cool them down by sending cooler blood to our brains.

Some scientists believe that yawning might help wake up our brains. When you yawn, the muscles in your face and neck move, which may cause a release of chemicals that make you feel more awake. The movement also increases your heart rate (the number of times your heart beats per minute), which helps wake you up.

Scientists are still investigating exactly why we yawn. But no matter the reason, we can be sure that God designed our bodies to do what they need to do to keep us healthy.

Pass-It-on Yawns

Have you ever noticed that yawns are contagious? If you yawn while sitting at the dinner table with your family, someone else will probably start yawning too! Many scientists believe that yawning is a way humans and animals alike communicate with each other.
