School violence, family break-up, abortion, etc.—our families are in trouble. Our children are leaving the church in droves. How can we turn the tide? The underlying problem is that many have abandoned the Bible as the source of absolute truth. The secular world bombards us with information supposedly “proving” that the Bible is not true: for example, dinosaurs lived millions of ago, humans evolved from ape-like creatures, and the universe was created from a big bang.
Our Christian worldview is crumbling because the authority and truthfulness of Scripture is being undermined. There is hope for us and for our families! I will show you how to use the Bible and science to show that the Bible can be trusted from the very first verse—whether it speaks on history, morality, or most importantly, salvation through Jesus Christ. God’s Word provides the answers we need to turn our lives—and our families—back to the Creator.
How often have we heard or taught these Bible “stories”? God created the world. Noah built a big boat. People built a tall tower on the plain of Shinar. Probably more times than we can count. Yet how many times have we answered the following questions as we taught these stories? Where did the “races” come from? Why is there death and suffering in the world? How old is the earth? What about dinosaurs? Did humans evolve from apes? Did Noah’s Flood really happen?
These Bible “stories” aren’t stories, they’re real historical events that connect to and help us make sense of life today. In this presentation, you’ll discover how to bring the Bible to life through a mnemonic called the “Seven C’s of History.” We’ll explore the answers to the above questions (and many more) and find out how we can teach our families and those around us the truth from Genesis to Revelation!
“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” Sadly, our culture is poised to repeat a grave error in the most serious of areas—human life.
A tragic chapter in American history began in the early 1900s with the rise of the eugenics (which means “well-born”) movement. Many prominent philanthropists, scientists, and politicians believed that the human race was degrading because the poor, sick, and deformed were cared for and therefore survived to reproduce. Because of their acceptance of molecules-to-man evolution, these cultural leaders believed that mankind would only progress if laws were passed to enforce sterilization and segregation of the “undesirables,” and if immigration and marriage of the same were restricted. Margaret Sanger embraced these ideas, and they were foundational in her establishment of Planned Parenthood.
Although the eugenics movement lost momentum when it was associated with the horrors of the Nazi regime, it didn’t die. Instead it became “quiet and careful.” A resurgence of eugenics is brewing in America. Modern Planned Parenthood still advocates many eugenic ideals. As Christians it is our responsibility to view life from God’s perspective and to defend all of those who are created in His image. No matter how impaired a human life may seem, every person has value because they are made in God’s image to bring glory to Himself.
If a loving God exists, why do children die from cancer? Why did He allow thousands to be killed in the 9/11 attacks? Is this pain and sickness we suffer from just a natural part of millions of years of evolution? Or is suffering and death an intrusion on this world? These tough questions weigh on the minds of many.
Within a biblical worldview, we understand that suffering and death were not part of God’s original “very good” creation but entered as a result of man’s disobedience to God. Adam and Eve, and all of us as their descendants, deserve eternal separation from a holy God. But instead, God lovingly showed His grace and mercy by providing a way to spend eternity with Him through sending His Son to pay the price for our sins. This very personal presentation is evangelistic and will help you reconcile the existence of pain with a loving Creator. You will leave knowing that God is good and love, and He can use your suffering for His glory in your lives.
Several years ago my husband and I decided to adopt internationally and were confronted with the issue of raising a child of another “race.” Questions swirled through our minds: Were we equipped to do this? Are there multiple races of people or just one race? What does the Bible teach?
As I share our personal journey to adopting our daughter from China, we’ll explore how we came to understand the biblical and scientific answers to race and racism. From creation to the Tower of Babel, the history from Genesis shows there is just one race of people and leaves no room for racism. We will also uncover the problems that arise when we look at the issue of race apart from God’s Word.
The biblical teaching on people groups and the position of believers as adopted children of God have provided an invaluable foundation of God’s Word in the life of our daughter.
Why is the sky blue? Where do babies come from? God has designed humans to be curious about the world and universe around us. This is especially evident with children. We’ve all heard the questions, and we know it is our responsibility to answer them truthfully. But what about those questions that may cause us to scratch our heads a bit more?
Children today are bombarded with false information from TV, the Internet, school, movies, and books about the past. As Christians, we need to give them the true answers from God’s Word (beginning in Genesis) and show them how science and other relevant areas confirm the Bible’s truth. We will explore simple, Bible-based answers to common questions about dinosaurs, the age of the earth, aliens, evolution, and death and suffering.
The Apostle Peter encouraged his readers to be ready to give an answer to everyone who asks about the hope that Christians have (1 Peter 3:15). Are you ready to answer the questions of the next generation about the hope that you have? Come and get equipped to teach the children in your life to stand firm on the authority of God’s Word.
Why is evangelism so ineffective today? The message of the gospel hasn’t changed, but the foundation of our culture has changed. People today don’t understand the foundational truths of Christ as Creator and the concept of sin. They are very much like the Greeks that Paul preached to—the gospel was foolishness to the Greeks because they did not have the foundational knowledge of Genesis. So how does our method of sharing the good news need to change to be more effective? We will learn that the key is starting with Jesus as Creator and then building on the foundation to lead people to Jesus as Redeemer.
Beginning with Eve in the Garden of Eden, Satan has been enticing women to question God’s Word and he hasn’t stopped. Satan’s work is very visible in the secular media. The most admired women in the world today are not admired for their commitment to their families (which is biblically mandated) but for their power and influence on society. Even Darwin’s evolutionary ideas had a negative role in changing the way women viewed their role in the home and society. Many Christian resources for women have also strayed from making the Word of God central to our ideas of womanhood.
In order to avoid being “weak women” (2 Timothy 3:6), we need to go back to Genesis and understand how it provides a basis for womanhood and how these principles are confirmed throughout Scripture. We will explore issues such as marriage, parenting, work, modesty, suffering, the image of God, and others. As image bearers of God, we should embrace the qualities we possess uniquely as women to bear His image and show the Creator God to our families and the world.
Marriage is one of the most hotly debated issues in our world today. Should marriage only be between a man and a woman? Does the Bible teach that wives are inferior to their husbands? Should marriage really be a life-long commitment? In our modern society marriage is being degraded to a casual, legal contract between any two people that can be easily achieved and dissolved.
We need to go back to Genesis and understand how it provides a basis for marriage and how these principles are confirmed throughout Scripture. In Genesis, we find the establishment and definition of marriage, the basis for equal but different roles of husbands and wives, and the permanency of marriage as part of God’s original design. We see how the curse has affected marriage leading to redefinitions of marriage, role reversals of husbands and wives, and increased divorce. However, there is hope for marriage if we stand on God’s Word as our ultimate authority. The Bible is filled with redeeming commands of love, respect, and submission that work to bring marriages back to God’s original design. These biblical principles provide the foundation to fulfill the primary purpose of marriage as we accurately reflect and portray the love relationship between Christ and the church to the world.
In the late 1960s, there was a popular announcement on TV before the evening news that asked, “It’s 10:00 PM. Do you know where your children are?” A similar question could be asked in our homes and churches today, “Do you know what your children are learning?” What children are learning in school and through media often contradict what they are learning in the home and church, and so they have questions. However, in our homes and churches they often learn Bible “stories” rather than learning the Bible is a book of history and truth. They often have questions that parents and those in the church are unable to answer. What happens when we fail to provide answers and teach children that God’s Word is the ultimate authority and connect it to the world? Statistics reveal that 2/3 or more of the young people that are in the church today will leave church when they leave home.
The Bible gives parents specific principles that are summarized by the five C’s—communicate, confirm, conduct, correct and connect. To employ these principles we need to uphold the authority of God’s Word and use it as a central resource to equip us with answers that will help build a godly legacy in our children. We need to connect God’s Word to God’s world and teach our children that the Bible is the ultimate authority for everything. I will share with you some practical advice for teaching children the truths of God’s Word in the home. Children need more than Bible stories; they need to understand the Bible as the ultimate authority for all of life’s questions.
Eve was the original bad girl of the Bible. Her legacy was one of sin and despair that condemned the world. The curse God pronounced on Eve affects our parenting and marriages today.
But she has another legacy—one of salvation and hope. Through her seed came Jesus Christ the Redeemer of man. Understanding Eve and how God worked in and through her gives us hope for today. We will walk through the life and legacies of Eve. You’ll discover that where sorrow and despair abound, God’s love and mercy abound more and lead us to a life marked by hope in the Creator whose Word is true and who keeps His promises.
The Intelligent Design (ID) movement has gained much popularity in both secular and Christian circles in recent years. What are the philosophical and theological foundations of the ID movement? Is the evidential approach to science valid? Are there problems for Christians utilizing the tenets of the ID movement? These questions will be answered to help you understand the pros and cons of this popular approach to the origins issue.
Have you ever wondered what goes on inside the cells of your body? Do you realize that your cells are really miniature factories performing thousands of jobs every second? Using visually stunning computer animations, we will explore the complexities of the inner workings of the cell and gain a greater appreciation of the designs of the Creator God.
Does the genetic evidence support one continuous evolutionary “tree of life” or a discontinuous “orchard” of separate kinds created by God? Is “junk” DNA really junk? Can mutation and natural selection increase information in DNA and provide a mechanism for molecules-to-man evolution? These questions will be answered and equip you with biblical and scientific knowledge that shows Genesis is true history confirmed by the evidence in DNA.
More and more evolutionists are saying that recent discoveries in the field of genetics are proof for common ancestry of life on earth. But is that really true? We will explore a layman’s overview of the historicity of Adam and Eve, supposed genetic links between humans and chimps, “junk” DNA, natural selection, and beneficial mutations—which will demonstrate that these “proofs” of evolution are nothing of the kind, but they can be easily explained from a biblical worldview.
The Bible does not specifically mention microbes (i.e., bacteria) but they are nonetheless living organisms created by God during the creation week. Although usually associated with disease, the vast majority of microbes serve important functions from digestion to cycling of nutrients in ecosystems.
Bacteria are often used as a model organism for evolutionary biology, but there are many reasons why this is inappropriate. The main mechanisms of evolution—mutation and natural selection—affect bacterial populations very differently than plants and animals. From a creation perspective we need to understand God’s original design and purpose for microbes and how various genetic mechanisms since the Fall have led to bacteria that cause disease.
While many of us grasp the spiritual reality of what Jesus did for us on the cross, few have grappled with the physical reality of the agonizing death Jesus suffered. Jesus was fully God and fully man thus He had to endure the very real mental, emotional, and physical effects of crucifixion. You are invited to experience Jesus’s journey from the Garden of Gethsemane to Calvary through a detailed analysis of His medical and emotional condition in addition to powerful clips from the movie The Passion of the Christ. You will be sure to gain a greater appreciation of Jesus’s sacrifice for us.
