Details

The King James version Bible is still incredibly popular after 400 years! Why?

Regardless of which style you prefer--one of the more modern versions such as the NIV, NASB, or NKJV--or the “old English” words of the KJV--this new DVD gives a deep appreciation for the Scriptures and how they were translated. Excellent information for everyone who loves the Bible, regardless of the version!

The year 2011 marks the 400th anniversary of the 1611 publication of the King James version Bible, widely recognized as the most important piece of English literature ever printed. You will see that King James had an uncanny love of beautiful things, including language to stir the soul. With several inferior English translations in use across his kingdom during King James' reign in the British empire, the Puritan leader John Rainolds took the opportunity to suggest that a new, more accurate translation was needed. With King James' blessing, a committee of 47 professors began the daunting task of creating a translation from Hebrew and Greek that was accurate, acceptable to all, and beautiful enough to meet the king's discriminating taste in literature. While Shakespeare's rich language lit up the stage, this committee penned a translation that would soon bring new life to the churches.

Award-winning director Jerry Griffith doesn't disappoint as he reveals the fascinating history of this great work, along with its impact on us today. KJV: The Making of the King James Bible brings the viewer right into the heart of the translation process, through specific passage examples--including a careful overview of the “political” concerns of government and church officials. While exploring the varying viewpoints of the different scholars, you get a firsthand look at the immense attention to detail they used. This DVD imparts a renewed appreciation for the the sacred scriptures and their place in our homes and churches. While the history presented is of the King James Version, you will see many important applications to all modern American versions as well!
