    Teaching Tie-In

Have you ever heard of the Northern Lights? They can be seen up in the Arctic and are bright moving lights that come in many colors, like green, pink, red, blue, and yellow. It's often very dark in the Arctic, and the Northern Lights can really be a light to a person's path.

The Bible calls itself a light to our path, too. What do you think that means when it says the Bible is a light to our path?

The Bible lights our way and helps us avoid things that would cause us to stumble and sin, and it also helps us do things that bring God's light to others in our world. Can you think of someone who needs a Bible so they can have the light of God's Word?

    Class Time Directions

    1. Color the large white rectangle with a yellow highlighter—especially around the edges.
    2. Use a popsicle stick to scratch the black surface of the postcard, revealing the bright colors underneath.
    3. Glue stick the back of the scratch art postcard. Then center it on the large yellow rectangle and press firmly.
    4. Glue stick the white tree to the bottom left or right corner of the scratch art postcard.
    5. Glue stick the Psalm 119:105 verse near the top of the scratch art postcard.
    6. To hang your Northern Lightscape, insert the ends of the yellow chenille stem into the holes at the corners and bend up to secure.

    Tip Corner

    • Scratch art postcards can be purchased from Oriental Trading Company.
    • As an alternative to cutting out the pine trees by hand, large pine tree punches can be found online or at craft stores like Hobby Lobby. Or consider using a pine tree die cut if you have access to a die cut machine at a school or elsewhere.
    • You can use yellow crayons instead of highlighters, but you'll need to use glue dots instead of glue stick to attach the scratch art postcard.
