What’s your favorite animal? My favorite is the frog! Did you know there are over 5,000 species of frogs in the world today? Green frogs are a common species that often live in ponds. Ponds are smaller than lakes and are often shallow, which lets more sunlight reach the bottom. The sunlight allows more plants to grow and encourages animals, like frogs, to live there.

Green frogs have great camouflage. Their upper lip and face are a brighter green than the rest of their body. The green color helps them blend in with plants. The lower part of their body is brown to help them hide at the muddy bottom of the pond.

With long tongues and sticky saliva, frogs quickly catch and eat creepy crawly things like crayfish, snails, spiders, small snakes, and especially insects. Animals didn’t eat other creatures before sin entered the world, but today frogs help keep insect numbers under control. The frog gets a yummy lunch, and we don’t have to swat at so many flies. We can be thankful for the ways God provides for his creation—and for us.
