Diver’s different life

It was wonderful to read the story by Squadron Leader Alf Jonas today. I was a Navy clearance diver on board HMAS Adelaide, who held and spoke to Mr Bullimore in the ocean when he made his miraculous escape from the hull of the upturned Exide Challenger. He was cold, weak, and in considerable discomfort, but managed to thank God for our appearance.

I have been a Christian for several years now and there is no doubt that the breaking down of the creation v evolution hurdles in my life was a major stepping stone to me eventually repenting and giving my life to Jesus Christ.

Not long before that rescue operation in the Southern Ocean I was away on board HMAS Adelaide. I remember my wife called to let me know that the Answers in Genesis people had visited the local church we had been frequenting. After witnessing some of their material her life was turned around and she is now a committed Christian. Words cannot express the difference this has made in both our lives.

Trumpet triumph

Your “Elephants” article last issue stated “However, as many of the 38 elephants Hannibal took across the Alps died during the journey, they were soon abandoned as war animals.”

As I recall from some history books, Hannibal was very successful and his surviving elephants made armies flee in terror. However, a Roman general decided to blow trumpets, which did confuse the elephants and gave the Romans their victory. So, it does not seem to be the low survival rate of the elephants but the Roman solution which led to the abandonment of the elephant as a war-animal in that part of the world.

May God bless you all.

Watery Eden

I was intrigued to read about the hen-eating sheep in the recent issue (Wild and woolly, Creation 21(4):9, 1999). While visiting the Corpus Christi (Texas, USA) Aquarium recently, I watched the diver feed the fish. The guide explained that the fish are fed restaurant grade fish, and vitamin supplements in fish flavoured gelatin. The fish soon learn that they will be fed twice daily, and quit making the effort to catch and eat one another. They live in what is truly a peaceable kingdom, including sharks, barracudas, and moray eels. When I described this to my husband, he said, “Think about the implications for the beginnings of carnivory …”

The limits of knowledge

The Lord Jesus Christ could say, “I am the way the truth and the life,” because as the Creator of all things He knows all things, including things which we have yet to discover.

I have yet to hear from anyone accepting the theory of evolution try to expand on the theory without using such terms as “could have,” “might have,” “probably,” “possibly,” “I think,” or many other terms of equal uncertainty when faced with the totally inexplicable calls on “Mother Nature.”

King Solomon wrote, “There is a way that seems right to a man but the end of it is the ways of death” [Proverbs 14:12, 16:25]. Denial of a Creator seems right to some, but surely to explain creation as having made itself leaves one with more problems than it solves.

Classroom change

At school we had been talking about the peppered moth story, and I thought it was the perfect time to try and bring the truth out. I took the article you published about the moths to school, and read it in front of the whole class. My science teacher, after hearing it, asked to borrow the magazine, and also gave the class a nice little talk about how “we can’t believe everything we hear.”

Evolving rules?

My fellow research scientists constantly argue the scientific virtues of evolution. How the devil has twisted the world’s perspective of natural laws and deceived a generation! The Theory of Evolution is far from a science.

When a mathematical theory is presented to the scientific community, its proof is rigorously tested. If a single counter-example is found where the theory fails, then the theory is immediately abandoned. These rules, however, do not apply to the theory of evolution.

Your brilliant magazine has been listing counter-examples for years, yet evolution continues to be presented as a scientific explanation of our origins. Every living thing is an example of our Creator’s greatness and a counter-example to evolution.

God bless you and your ministry.
