Turn Your Church into an Aussie Paradise: 6 Decor Ideas for an Australia-Themed VBS

This summer, we’re zooming off to the land Down Under to discover the value of every human life. And if your church is joining us and hosting our Australia-themed VBS, Zoomerang, here are six décor ideas to turn your church into an Aussie paradise:

1. Use your support system. Have structural supports in some of the rooms at your church? Wrap them in crinkled brown paper, add some leafy green pom-poms at the top, and a cardboard or stuffed koala, and you have the makings of a lush eucalyptus forest.
2. Reduce, reuse, recycle. If you hosted our 2021 Answers VBS, Mystery Island, this year, you might have some underwater-themed décor floating around. Reuse it to craft the sparkling waters of the Great Barrier Reef.
3. Don’t forget the ceiling! The Australian Outback is a lot of dirt, scrubby bushes, and blue sky. Hang blue streamers and yellow orbs from the ceiling to create an endless blue sky. Or hang fish, jellyfish, octopuses, and more from the ceiling to give the illusion you’re diving on the reef. Pile some seashells and starfish in the corners and along the wall to continue the theme.
4. Think outside the box (or the church). Nothing says the Outback like an all-terrain vehicle. Does a church member have a jeep or a 4x4 you could park outside the doors to bring some Aussie outside? Bonus: it can double as storage for extra name tags, t-shirts, and more.
5. Go big and bright. Give a nod to Australia’s big cities and architectural wonders with a cityscape of cardboard and construction paper. Place lights behind the construction paper windows to add some glow.
