Tomorrow, May 2, 2024, is National Day of Prayer here in the United States. Thousands of Christians across the nation will be taking time tomorrow, corporately or individually, to specifically pray for this nation, our leaders, and our future. At Answers in Genesis, our staff always takes time during our Thursday morning staff meeting to pray, and I encourage you to pray as well.

God’s Word is powerful, and if we want to see this nation turn back to the Lord, it will take his Word and his Spirit working in the hearts of men and women.

I love the theme they’ve chosen for 2024: Lift Up the Word—Light Up the World. Yes, God’s Word is powerful, and if we want to see this nation turn back to the Lord, it will take his Word and his Spirit working in the hearts of men and women. You see, the battle for this nation is a spiritual battle, and we don’t war with the weapons of our world but with the armor of God, which includes our offensive weapon—the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (see Ephesians 6).

As you prepare for National Day of Prayer, meditate on this year’s theme verse and determine to pray for this nation tomorrow—that many people will come to know Christ and that, in the midst of great moral decay, spiritual darkness, uncertainty, and more, Christ’s followers will be a city on a hill, pointing people toward the perfect King, Jesus, who saves us from our biggest problem, our sin.

For you are my lamp, O Lord, and my God lightens my darkness. For by you I can run against a troop, and by my God I can leap over a wall. This God—his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him. (2 Samuel 22:29–31)

By the way, there will be politicians who say that we need to pray, but ask them who they are praying to. Many people today say they will pray for someone or pray for the nation, but what do they mean by prayer? And who do they say they are praying to? Make sure people understand there’s only one true God to whom we pray—the God of the Bible.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
Ken
