Why do we need the Word of God so much? Well, consider that we all have sinful hearts. We typically want what’s wrong, not what’s right. As the book of John says, we love darkness rather than light!

So, we need the Bible because it’s the truth and it illuminates our sinful hearts.

So much of the Bible is what you could call “upside-down thinking”—it’s totally opposite how we naturally think. For example, we’re called to love our enemies, forgive and trust God for vengeance. We’re to do good even to those who hate us.

As Christians, we need the Word of God to shape our thinking so we think and act as God would have us—not as the world does.
