Transcript

All this week we’re celebrating Christmas by looking at the theology of Christmas carols. What about “O Come All Ye Faithful?” This song is an adoration of Christ the Lord and the king of angels.

Some versions have verses like “very God, begotten not created”—a beautiful reminder that Christ didn’t come to be just the baby in the manger—he’s the eternal God himself. Another verse says “Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing”—again emphasizing that Christ is eternal and he’s the Word, an allusion to the Gospel of John.

This carol invites the faithful to adore Jesus, the only one worth our adoration.
